Kulttuuriyhdistys Kulttuuribingo Ry announces an open call for an international artist residency program, Oulu-AIR, from September to December 2022. Oulu-AiR provides the artist accommodation and a studio space in the heart of Oulu, in the largest city in Northern Finland. Artist fee 1000 € is provided for the selected artist, duo or group to to cover travel, material costs and artist fee. We encourage artists to travel with using more sustainable options.
Oulu is the largest city of Northern Finland and is located by the sea in the Gulf of Bothnia. Our residency’s small studio space resides on the island of Pikisaari, which is known to be one of the cultural hubs of Oulu with many artists’ and crafters’ studio spaces located there. The city has been elected to be the European Capital of Culture in 2026 and our residency plays a part in bringing diversity and cultural experiences to the region and its local communities.
We invite applications from either solo, couples or artist groups. Artistic media is not restricted. The residency period depends of the working plan and can be varied between 2-4 weeks, or other period needed. During the residency open studio or other public presentation of artistic practice can be organized.
Oulu-AiR is an artist-in-residence programme run by the Kulttuuribingo Ry with partner organizations. The purpose of the residency is to enrich Oulu’s art and cultural scene by welcoming artists and creative individuals to produce new work whilst living and working in the city. Residency program is funded by Artist Promotion Center Finland and Ecoc Oulu2026.
